June 12, 2008 - Handover ceremony of the Israeli pomegranate plantation in celebration of His Majesty the King’s 80th Birthday Anniversary at Hubkapong Cooperatives Demonstration Centre

HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn graciously presided over the handover ceremony of pomegranate plantation, a gift from the State of Israel for His Majesty the King at Hubkapong Cooperatives Demonstration Centre, Cha Am district, Petchburi Province on Thursday June 12th, 2008.

During the ceremony, “Esta” – one of the most original world music bands from Israel - performed before HRH Princess Sirindhorn.

Learning the fact that pomegranate is one of His Majesty’s favourite fruits, the Israeli Government has planted an orchard of 120 pomegranate trees from Israel in the site of Hubkapong which is near Klai Kangwon Palace, His Majesty’s Summer Palace, in Hua Hin. The location in Hubkapong Cooperatives Demonstration Centre was carefully chosen at the site of previous Thai-Israeli joint venture in agriculture from 1996-1971. Experts were sent over from Israel to inspect the planting site and to supervise and oversee the planting process.

120 is a number of great significance in the Jewish culture that is a sign of good health and happiness.
